Edmonton, AB – 2024-09-10 – Wenzel Downhole Tools (WZL) is pleased to introduce the M42 “Matador”, the latest addition to their renowned line of downhole drilling motors.
The Matador is a mud-lubricated, Rotary Steerable System (RSS)-optimized motor that comes standard with a straight housing and pin-down mandrel for RSS plug-and-play.
M42 Matador features and benefits
WZL understands that with smooth and precise RSS drilling comes more expensive operating costs and higher lost-in-hole exposure. RSS drilling operators also require a steady, controlled flow of drilling fluid to achieve the efficient rate of penetration they desire.
To address our customers’ needs, our engineers designed the Matador for exceptional endurance, agility and to have the ability to escape bad situations in one piece:
- Optimized flow restrictor system
- More consistent—and better control of—bypass from run start-completion
- 30% decrease in bypass compared to standard WZL motor design
- Full carbide sleeve on upper flow restrictor provides unparalleled durability
- In-house carbide tiling applied to lower flow restrictor
- Durable design for higher torque
- Cold-rolled round thread on output mandrel reduces chance of fatigue cracking and allows higher torque
- Overhauled bearing assembly
- High torque rotor connection
- Integral catch mechanism
- A tough integral mandrel catch mechanism ensures motor (and expensive RSS components below) will not back off in a fishing operation
M42 Matador availability
The Matador is currently available with a 5 ¼” OD and includes a redesigned bearing pack that has been optimized for this size.
Optional enhancements include an integral blade stabilizer, rotor retainer and/or flex top sub, and your choice of pure flex or hybrid flex drivelines.
